About my work
I have had a keen interest in woodworking for most of my life. In 1989 I completed my City and Guilds in Advanced Joinery at Southampton Technical College. I worked as an apprentice joiner, learning my trade in a joinery shop in Southampton. In 1991, I decided to work alongside my father in his construction company. I was responsible for making purpose made joinery, cabinets and hand made kitchens.
In 2006 I returned to education at Highbury College in Portsmouth and obtained my City and Guilds in Furniture Making, gaining a Distinction. Whilst at Highbury College I was awarded a business start up grant. This grant has allowed me to pursue my ambition of crafting fine furniture.
In 2007 I had the opportunity to work alongside a well established furniture designer and maker, based in Wiltshire. This experience provided me with valuable insights into designing and making contemporary furniture.
I am member of the British Woodcarving Association, and have exhibited some of my woodcarvings. I continue to use my woodcarving skills and have used them when sculpturing some of my furniture pieces. I like the smooth, curvaceous look which shaping wood can give to a piece of furniture.
I pay equal attention to handcrafted details such as dovetail joints and the way drawers fit, so that as well as looking beautiful, my work stands up to the closest of scrutiny and will last for generations.
